Private Lessons

Perfect for: groups of 4-12 players

Grab your friends and family for a private mahjong lesson! We’ll bring the game to you and make sure your group has a blast learning the ins and outs of this popular game. We offer two types of private lessons: Mahjong 101 and Mahjong 102. Our instructors will provide everything needed to learn!

  • Get ready to dive into your newest obsession! This lesson is the perfect starting point for beginners looking to learn mahjong in a fun and friendly environment.

    A minimum of 4 players are required for a private lesson (but the more, the merrier!) and lessons last between 2 and 2.5 hours. Here's what you can expect to learn:

    • Game overview

    • Understanding the tiles

    • Decoding the NMJL playing card

    • Practice building winning lines

    • and more!

    This session goes hand-in-hand with Mahjong 102 and it is recommended that you schedule that lesson a week after your first. 

    A minimum of 4 players are required for a private lesson. If you don't have 4 people, keep an eye out for any of our events or small group lessons! They'll be announced on our Instagram page and to our mailing list.

  • Ready for more mahjong? Mahjong 102 is designed for players who have already completed Mahjong 101 and want additional instructor guidance—prior experience with Mahjong 101 is required before taking Mahjong 102.

    A minimum of 4 players are required for a private lesson (but the more, the merrier!). Here's what you can expect to learn:

    • Practice the deal

    • Practice the Charleston

    • Intro to strategy and defensive play

    • and more!

    After this lesson, you and your friends will be ready to begin playing on your own!

Perfect for: bachelorettes, birthday parties, members’ events, fundraisers, and more

If you’re looking for something unique for your next party or event - mahjong is it! We’ll collaborate with you on the event, whether you’re looking for a lesson, open play, or to host a tournament. Do you want to host a members’ event for your business? Surprise a friend for their birthday? Provide prizes or goody bags? We’ll help to make sure your event is memorable!

TMS Pop Up Events

Perfect for: solo players, groups less than 4 players, and making new friends

One of The Mahjong Society’s favorite things to do is put on pop up events around the city. We partner with local businesses to host Mahjong 101 lessons, open play nights, and other fun events that bring people together to play our favorite game!

Because these events are ticketed, they’re perfect for anyone looking to learn who doesn’t have a group large enough for a private lesson. They’re also a great way to meet new people - we’ve seen many friendships form from a night of mahjong!
